Dr. Jessica Glaeser
She is is a lecturer in the French section of the Department of Foreign Languages at the University of the Western Cape where she teaches courses in Francophone and European French Literature. She supervises postgraduate research at all levels, whilst currently developing a specialized focus on auto-ethnographical studies in PhD supervision. She holds a PhD in Foreign Languages, with a focus on African Francophone literature. Her doctoral research, entitled Apocalypse: the study of the myth and archetype in the novels of Calixthe Beyala, reflects her broader interests in African Francophone women’s writing, myth, archetype, and psychoanalytic approaches to literature. A former doctoral fellow of the Centre for Humanities Research, she continues to value the transformative role of the Humanities in academia and society. Dr Glaeser is currently developing her PhD thesis into a book manuscript, while remaining deeply committed to student mentorship and critical engagement with French literature.
