Dr. Susana Fernandez Blanco
Susana Fernandez Blanco is a Spanish artist based in Bahrain who is an Assistant Professor at the Royal University for Women. She holds an international PhD in Fine Arts from Complutense University of Madrid, a Master’s in Contemporary Art, and two bachelor’s degrees in Art and Design from Spain and the UK. Her work has been exhibited in Spain, Singapore, the UK, Saudi Arabia, and Bahrain, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams of artists, engineers and architects. With a focus on encaustic and sustainability, Susana is researching eco-friendly materials and gender issues, using traditional techniques to innovations like 3D printing, AI, and virtual reality. Her art explores intersectional feminist issues, addressing inequality in the workplace, Islamophobia, ageism, and body image pressures, adding to various narratives. Her multi-disciplinary work straddles ancient and modern methods to counteract social conventions and gender disparity.
