Ms. Shia Han
She is a high school student at Shibuya Senior High School in Tokyo, Japan. She is highly involved in advocacy work regarding gender issues such as volunteering at women shelters, reporting for the 70th Commission on the Status of Women held by the UN, and building her own female mentorship program. Her efforts to introduce LGBTQ+ education in schools was recognized by the city of Shibuya through the Shibuya Gender Equality Promotion Award. Her research observes how female high schoolers’ self esteem is affected by cosmetic advertisements in Japan. It highlights the factors in society that cause women to become victims of severe lookism which often leads to facial dysmorphia and mental stress.
